Research Area: Ozonation and Advanced Oxidation Processes for Water and Wastewater Treatment and Water Reuse

Ozonation and advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have been Dr. Ikehata’s primary research interest in the past 14 years. Dr. Ikehata has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, book chapters, and professional articles relating to the use of ozone and AOP in surface water treatment, groundwater treatment, water reuse, contaminant oxidation and degradation, taste & odor control, and disinfection by-products.  He is also a long-time member of the International Ozone Association and Japan Ozone Association and has played leadership roles in the industry.

ARJWS Ozone AOP Facility Visit

Dr. Ikehata Visited Anderson Regional Joint Water System’s Ozone AOP Facility in July 2019

At Texas State University, we are exploring the uses of ozone and AOP for municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment and reuse. We are currently involved in a collaborative research to develop new ozonation and AOP reactors for municipal, industrial and commercial uses.   Also, development of new analytical techniques for emerging contaminants, disinfection by-products and microorganisms for water and wastewater treatment is an active research area. It is important to work closely with utility and industrial partners who own and operate ozone or AOP-based treatment facilities and/or who are interested in implementing these technologies to understand the research needs of the industry.
